Getting braces is a rite of passage for most young children. What’s tricky, though, is for parents to know when the best time is for their children to get braces.

That’s a decision you should make with all possible information at your disposal, which is why our team here at Fountains Family Dental Center in Chandler, Arizona, put this piece together to help you make the best orthodontic choices for your children.

Evaluation

Children should be evaluated for orthodontic needs after they lose their first few teeth. Once those teeth are gone and Dr. Timothy Yu can see how the adult teeth are going to come in through their gums. Once he knows what’s going on with your child’s adult teeth, a recommendation for treatment can be made.

Not all kids need braces

Not all children will need braces, and every child will have differing levels of orthodontic needs. Some may need quite a bit of work to create space in their mouths for their adult teeth, while others may be able to simply use invisible aligners and leave with straight teeth in a relatively short amount of time.
